Terms and Conditions of the 4later App
Last updated: October 8, 2026
1.1 "We" or "4later UG" refers to 4later UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Friedrich-Dürr-Straße 16, 85221 Dachau, Germany.
1.2 "App" refers to the 4later application, available for iPhone, iPad and Mac.
1.3 "Customer" or "User" refers to any natural or legal person who uses the App and/or subscribes to the App.
1.4 "In-App Purchase" refers to any purchase made by a User through Apple's App Store, constituting a binding order, whether for a subscription or other paid features.
1.5 "Service" refers to the use of the App and the features, services, or other offerings provided therein.
1.6 "Contract Term" refers to the period during which the App features are made available to you and you make use of them.
1.7 "Plan" refers to a tier of the subscription with a defined scope of features and defined usage limits (Section 4).
1.8 "Usage Limit" refers to an upper limit for the use of a feature that depends on the plan or on free use, such as for cloud storage or for the number of certain operations per period.
These Terms and Conditions govern the use of the "4later" App and the associated services. Deviating terms shall not apply unless expressly confirmed in writing.
3.1 To use the App, you must have a compatible device (e.g., smartphone, tablet) and internet access. The technical requirements for using the App may change.
3.2 Using the App requires registration with an Apple or Google account. Accounts created without sign-in (anonymously) during an earlier testing phase remain usable; such an account can be linked to an Apple or Google account at any time.
3.3 The App allows you to save content such as URLs, images, PDFs, and notes, and to add metadata. This content is organized in individually created topics.
3.4 Content stored in the App can be synchronized across devices, provided you sign in with an Apple or Google account.
3.5 Shared Topics: The App allows topics to be shared with other users. The owner of a shared topic decides on invitations, approves or declines join requests, assigns roles (editor or viewer), may remove members at any time, and may end sharing at any time. When sharing ends, when the topic is archived or deleted, or when the owner's account is deleted, all members' access ends; there is no claim to continued access or to the release of shared content. Each user is responsible for the content they contribute to a shared topic; Section 12 (Fair Use and Abuse Prevention) applies accordingly. The number of members per topic may be limited depending on the plan (Section 4). The owner can see whether members have read items; details are governed by the Privacy Policy. Members can report items in a shared topic through the reporting function in the App if they consider them objectionable; the consequences of a report are governed by Section 12.
4.1 Free use: After registration you can use the App free of charge without a subscription; the usage limits of free use apply (Section 10.1). Free use is not limited in time; its scope of features and its usage limits may be adjusted in accordance with Section 4.5. A subscription (Section 4.2) extends the scope of features and raises the usage limits.
4.2 Plans: We offer subscriptions in tiered plans, currently Basic and Premium, each with a monthly or annual term. The plans differ in their scope of features and in their usage limits, in particular for cloud storage, the quotas for requests to the AI assistant, for email imports and for imports from cloud folders (iCloud Drive, Dropbox), and the connection of external AI assistants. Which features and usage limits apply to a plan is shown in the App and on our pricing page; the values shown at the time of purchase are decisive.
4.3 Usage limits may take the form of a total limit (such as for storage) or of a quota per period (such as per day or per calendar month). A quota per period becomes available again in full at the start of the next period; unused quotas are not carried over. The consequences of reaching a usage limit are governed by Section 7.
4.4 One subscription and several accounts: A subscription is tied to the Apple account through which it was purchased. It can be used for a limited number of 4later accounts that you are signed in to on a device using that Apple account; the applicable number is shown in the App. As long as the permitted number has not been reached, a further account on the same Apple ID receives the plan automatically once it signs in and the App verifies the purchase. Once the permitted number has been reached, a further account uses the subscription only after you expressly take it over for that account in the App; merely signing in then does not cause a change. With such a takeover, the account that has gone longest without using the subscription loses the plan with immediate effect; the grace period under Section 7.4 does not apply in this case. An account that has lost the plan in this way can take it over again at any time in the same manner. Apple's Family Sharing is a separate matter: if you share the subscription through Family Sharing, the members of your Apple family can use it with their own Apple accounts. That use does not count towards the number stated above. The scope, requirements and termination of Family Sharing are governed by Apple's terms; we have no influence over them and are not told who belongs to your family.
4.5 Adjustment of services and usage limits: We may adjust the scope of features and the usage limits of the plans and of free use where there is a valid reason to do so, in particular changed costs or services of third-party providers, technical development, security requirements or legal requirements, and where the adjustment is reasonable for you taking your legitimate interests into account. Extensions are possible at any time. We will announce restrictions to you with reasonable notice in the App or by email; for a current subscription they take effect no earlier than the start of the billing period following the announcement. If you do not agree with an announced restriction, you can end your subscription at the end of the current billing period (Section 6.4). The applicable values are shown in the App and on our pricing page.
5.1 The displayed storage usage consists of the sum of the actual file sizes of uploaded attachments and flat surcharges of 100 KB per stored item and 50 KB per attachment.
5.2 The flat surcharges are notional cost factors that do not reflect the actual document size but rather account for infrastructure costs on a flat-rate basis (e.g., Firestore operations, bandwidth, indexing). A change to the amount of the surcharges is governed by Section 4.5.
6.1 Your contracting party for the purchase is Apple. Subscriptions are concluded exclusively as an in-app purchase through the App Store; payment, invoicing, subscription management and the handling of refund requests are performed by Apple under Apple's terms. Any statutory right of withdrawal relating to the purchase is directed at Apple; refunds are requested through Apple.
6.2 The prices and terms of the plans are shown to you in the App Store purchase dialog before purchase and are charged to your Apple account when you confirm the purchase. They may vary depending on the plan and term. Price changes for an existing subscription are announced to you by Apple under Apple's rules.
6.3 Subscriptions have a monthly or annual term and renew automatically for the same term unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. The charge for the renewal is made to your Apple account within the last 24 hours of the current billing period.
6.4 You can cancel a subscription or change your plan at any time, in the App via "Edit Plan …" or in your Apple account settings under "Subscriptions". A cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; the plan remains usable until then. An upgrade to a higher plan takes effect immediately under the rules of the App Store, a change to a lower plan at the end of the current billing period.
6.5 As soon as Apple notifies us of a refund or a revocation, the corresponding plan in the App ends with immediate effect; the grace period under Section 7.4 does not apply in this case.
7.1 No existing data will be deleted.
7.2 When the storage limit is reached, new uploads are blocked; reading and editing existing data remains possible. When a quota per period is reached, the affected feature is not executed further until the start of the next period; all other features remain usable. An upgrade to a higher plan raises the limit with immediate effect.
7.3 When you change to a lower plan, its usage limits apply from the time the change takes effect. If your storage usage exceeds the new limit, new uploads are blocked; reading and editing existing data remains possible.
7.4 If your subscription ends by cancellation or expiry, a grace period with the usage limits of your previous plan applies first; its length is shown to you in the App. After the grace period, after a refund (Section 6.5) and after the subscription has passed to another account (Section 4.4), the usage limits of free use (Section 4.1) apply. If your storage usage exceeds that limit, Section 7.3 applies accordingly. Your data is preserved throughout.
7.5 You can download your data in full at any time via the export function. Deletion of your account is governed by the Privacy Policy.
7.6 If your account is not used for 12 months, we may delete it after prior notice by email; details, exceptions and the option of restoring it are set out in Section 5 of the Privacy Policy.
For accounts created before the App was published on the App Store, free use under Section 4.1 applies in the same way. Accounts from an earlier testing phase without sign-in (Section 3.2) remain usable; these Terms and Conditions apply to them in the same way.
9.1 4later strives to maintain high availability of its services but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. The App may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, technical issues, or other reasons.
9.2 4later UG reserves the right to develop, modify or discontinue the App and individual features. Restrictions of the scope of features or of the usage limits of a current subscription are governed by Section 4.5.
10.1 The current usage limits per plan and for free use as well as the method of storage calculation are presented in the App and on our pricing page.
10.2 4later strives to communicate changes transparently. Where legally required, prior notice with a reasonable period will be provided.
In the event of future changes to usage limits, 4later will, where legally required, provide reasonable transitional arrangements. This may particularly affect users whose current usage exceeds a new limit; in that case Section 7.3 applies accordingly (blocking of new uploads while read and edit access is maintained). Section 4.5 remains unaffected.
4later may take measures to prevent abusive use or excessive system load (e.g., temporary upload restrictions or rate limits), to the extent necessary and proportionate.
Objectionable, harassing, or unlawful content is not permitted in shared topics. 4later reviews reports received (Section 3.5) and may, to the extent necessary and proportionate, remove content, remove members from a shared topic, end sharing, or, in the case of serious or repeated violations, suspend the account concerned. There is no entitlement to have a report reviewed within a specific period.
Information on the processing of personal data can be found in the separate Privacy Policy. 4later processes personal data exclusively within the framework of applicable data protection laws.
14.1 The App and all content, information, and services provided through the App are provided "as is" and without any warranties or representations. Use of the App is at your own risk.
14.2 For slight negligence, 4later shall only be liable in the event of a breach of material contractual obligations (cardinal obligations); in such cases, liability is limited to the foreseeable damage typical for the contract.
14.3 Liability for damages arising from injury to life, body, or health remains unaffected.
14.4 4later UG shall not be liable for direct or indirect damages arising from the use or inability to use the App, unless such damages are caused by intentional or grossly negligent conduct.
15.1 4later may amend these Terms and Conditions where there is a legitimate reason (e.g., legislative changes, expansion of services, security reasons). Where legally required, timely notice of the changes will be provided.
15.2 Changes will be communicated to you in the App or by email. If you continue to use the App after the changes take effect, you agree to the amended terms.
16.1 The laws of the Federal Republic of Germany shall apply, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Mandatory consumer protection provisions of the user's country of residence remain unaffected.
16.2 The place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising from or in connection with these Terms and Conditions shall be the registered office of 4later UG, where legally permissible.
16.3 Should any provision of these Terms and Conditions be or become invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions shall remain unaffected.
